When it comes to success, we all have our own personal ideas about what it takes to achieve our goals.

For some, success is always just out of reach, no matter how much they want it. For others, they are willing to put in the work and to do whatever is needed to get them to where they need to be.

One of the keys to achieving your goals, which is almost always found in those people who have attained the most amount of success in their life, is ‘discipline’.

Today, we look at the 5 elements of discipline you’ll need to be successful.

#1 – Develop Self-Discipline

When it comes to achieving your goals, self-discipline is crucial.

People are often too quick to talk about how they want to do this and want to do that, and while they talk a good game, when push comes to shove, they aren’t willing to put in the hard work.

Looking at weight loss as an example, people will whine and complain about needing to lose weight, yet when you suggest a change in diet and lifestyle, they’re often full of excuses.

They’ll claim they’re too busy to go do some exercise, yet most nights they’ll spend their evenings glued to the TV, watching nonsense on the sofa.

So, they’re too busy to go to the gym to help them achieve a goal, but they aren’t too busy to watch several hours of television each night??

If you want to be successful, you MUST develop self-discipline.

#2 – Be Disciplined

It’s no good developing self-discipline in your mind if you aren’t willing to practice what you preach.

Discipline means forcing yourself to the gym when you’re tired and emotional. It’s about drawing up that new business plan or putting time, effort and energy into your new-found investment strategy, despite having worked a 12-hour shift, at a job you most likely hate.

If you want to reach all of your goals and objectives, you need to look at the big picture and force yourself out of your comfort zone.

#3. Have Discipline

Having discipline means that you know that you are comfortable enough to say no to things that will detract from your goal.

Having discipline is about setting deadlines and targets and working consistently to ensure that you hit them, no matter how hard you’re going to have to work.

Having discipline is basically about showing up and putting in the work, no matter how tired you may be.

Becoming great at something is consistently working on it… even when you don’t want to. That is what true discipline is, and when you master that, there’s very little that can hold you back.

#4 – Discipline Yourself

By discipline yourself, I mean you get to work taking away some negative influences and vices in your life that may seem enjoyable at the time, but are holding you back and preventing you from achieving your goals.

Eating a burger with fries that some drive-through has cooked up might seem like a good idea at the time, and whilst it might be convenient, if you truly want to lose weight, get fit and healthy, this is a vice that needs removing.

If you’re looking to start, grow or expand your business, materialistic distractions holding you back should again be removed. If you are able to discipline yourself, you’ll be well on your way down the path to success.

#5. Have Self-Discipline

Self-discipline is important for every single thing you do in life.

Brushing your teeth in a morning requires self-discipline, which is why the vast majority of you always do it. If you didn’t, your teeth would probably rot and fall out, so you do it.

Having self-discipline is about making things become habits.

When they become habits, they become second nature to you, meaning that you’re far less-likely to slack off.

Have self-discipline and nothing will get in the way of reaching your goals.
